Alright, I’m hopeless …

I can’t even watch a kid’s “Chipmunk” movie without taking away these three cool, money-getting business “secrets.”

But, since I’m plagued with this “CURSE” I figure I’ll share with you what I “learned” while watching the movie. Let me explain.

I can remember listening to The Chipmunks on records when I was a kid (how’s that for aging myself?)

Well, this past weekend, I saw their new movie — “Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” — with my wife Tonya and our two daughters.

Anyway … the movie was purdy good. And, as I said already, it brought up a few cool “money-getting” lessons I’d like to share with you.

But, before I share them, let me say this …

If you haven’t already seen the movie I don’t intend to ruin it for you — so I won’t go into depth of actual “story stuff” from the movie.

Instead, I’ll focus on the “secrets.”

Oh, one more thing.

There are 3 original chipmunks (Alvin, Simon, and Theadore aka “the sweet one”).

And, I have 3 “chipmunk money-getting secrets” for you — cute coincidence, eh?

OK, I’m getting a little nutty, so let me crack open the shell on these three “secrets” …

Your past success does not guarantee your future success!

You probably already know my story, but Tonya and I were pretty successful in the magazine publishing business.

We started with nothing, and expanded the business quickly, publishing magazines in three states in a little over three short years.

Then, we sold our magazines in 1999, and shortly thereafter started down another business path (“what” that path was isn’t important for this email or lesson).

In the first 6 months on this “new path” the business brought in a total of $2,400.

NOT GOOD!

A big fat failure.

I was frustrated, confused, and totally READY to do something different if I couldn’t figure out how to make the business work — FAST!

I had discovered “Chipmunk Money-Getting Secret #1″ … your past success does not guarantee your future success.

Imagine yourself having had success in some venture in the past, but NOW finding yourself lost, without direction, and desperate for some answers.

You are probably already aware of the fact that in order to succeed in the new economy (and in 2010), you may have to learn some new skills, try some new tactics, and build your business around a new strategy.

It’s one of the first things I discuss with new clients when I ask, “Are you ready to open your mind to new ways of doing business, and new ways of creating income?”

Sooner or later you’ll experience the frustration of doing the same things that brought success, but finding they no longer work as well as they used to work.

Onward to “secret” number two …

Focus on giving to OTHER people (or chipmunks) if you want to be successful.

I remember a quote from Zig Ziglar that says (I’m paraphrasing), “You can do what you want, have what you want, and be what you want, if you’ll just help enough other people get what they want.”

I love that!

And, it’s true.

Experience shows us that success in any endeavor is REALLY the result of “GIVING” to others.

That includes:

>>> Giving to your customers.

>>> Giving to your team members.

>>> Giving to your partners.

>>> Giving to other people.

FACT: The more you give, the more you get.

But, you’ve gotta give, give, give … if you wanna get, get, get — THAT’S LAW!

It’s also a life-changing realization.

Example:

One of the businesses Tonya and I are building — and focusing on more in 2010 –is ALL ABOUT giving. Giving and sending out good stuff to other people … and letting the universe give back to us.

In fact, when we first focused on this business of “giving” a while back, in just 3 short months we built a monthly income stream big enough that you could pay for a Half-Million dollar home, payments on several luxury cars, private school tuition, or enough money that you could take your family on just about any vacation imaginable — several times a year.

And, that was just scratching the scratch on the surface of what it could do. It was only the beginning.

Without a doubt, “GIVING” is powerful!

Working together is more fun — and productive — than working alone.

I’m a big believer in surrounding yourself with others in a support system that helps everyone collectively grow, succeed, and prosper.
